Online Centralized Events Center For Rochester Institute of Technology

Abstract

Many interactive websites were built using Flash technology. For awhile, Flash has become the only industry standard in developing the interactive website. But nowadays web developers are presented with more choices other than Flash in building the interactive websites. Open source technologies such as SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) or PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) are available to the web developers with no cost comparing to Flash. By merging these new technologies, developers will be able to achieve the same thing as Flash offers. My capstone project will explore these open source technologies, and incorporate them in the project.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) uses a quarter year system. It means that the majority of RIT students have very tight academic schedules. Many of them are not aware of any events happening on campus because they are spending their time either studying or working on projects. RIT on-campus events are posted online on the RIT official website. Although the system provides sufficient information about events, it does not provide any way to reserve tickets online. Students have to visit different ticket booths to get tickets for different events. My capstone project intends to offer conveniences of browsing the events, and making reservations in one place. It will eliminate the need of visiting different ticket booths, and waiting in the line.
